Some of us, if not most of us, live in constant struggle throughout the day. We push, pull, force, and resist to get “our way.” We try to dominate with power over others. We try to force and maneuver by control. We resist what stands in our path because it appears to be blocking us from what we think we want.
Somewhere along the line, we were taught that life requires a struggle — a push and pull — a fight for dominance and control.
Ancient wisdom (Taoism) is here to say that it doesn’t have to be that way.
It talks about being like water.
Here’s a passage:
The highest good is like water. Water gives life to all things and does not compete. It flows in places men reject, and so is like the Tao (The Way).
Water is flexible. It takes the shape of whatever it contains, for example, pour it into a cup, and it’s the cup. Pour it into a pot; it is the pot.
Water can’t be destroyed. You can hit it, blow it up, yet it remains.
It yields to all things, yet it’s more powerful than rock or mountain.
It’s humble, flowing to the lowest places, yet it is essential to life.
It succeeds by not striving, not resisting, and not asserting its ego. In doing so, it accomplishes everything. In the end, it wins.
To live like water is to embrace softness over rigidity. To be flexible and fluid.
In relationships, it means choosing understanding over domination.
With obstacles, it means not resisting or fighting; rather, going with the flow with patience.
Being like water teaches us that true power comes from flexibility, humility, gentleness, stillness, and most importantly, surrendering to the flow of life to live in harmony with it.
My friends, let’s all be like water. Let’s all seek harmony with everything, with nature and with each other.
Flow with, not against. Surrender to, don’t force. Bow to, humbly, don’t dominate. Be still, not overactive. Be patient, not anxious. Most of all, relax. Everything is going to be ok.
Be like water!
Eddie, did you mean for the first "word" of this Whisper is "WaterfALL . . . of us . . . ???" I wonder what our world would be like if more people asked "What would water do?" before doing something. Personally, I would like to be on Team Harmony, if there are any spots open!
